High School Musical

Every year, Vernal Theater puts on an all-kid musical in the summer. We missed Annie last summer, but the girls were both able to audition for High School Musical this year. They were in the cast with Eve, and Tori's friends, Lauren and Alli. They made new friends, as well, and had a lot of fun.

Maggie was cast as Miss Darbus, the older drama teacher. They also cast a young boy as the coach, with whom she clashes in the play.  I was a bit surprised by that, but the audience loved seeing the young kids lecture the teenagers. They got the biggest laughs. Maggie was confident and convincing in a big role. She was fabulous!

Tori had signed up to help with choreography before the auditions, and they sent her an email telling her she was the student choreographer, but she also auditioned, and was chosen as a dancer. She never heard anything more about helping with choreography, so I guess she'll know not to audition for a part in the future, if she wants to choreograph. (She had a lot of fun, but felt like it was a little juvenile, with all of the young cast members.) In any case, she was incredible as a cheerleader/dancer, and they were lucky to have her.

I saw the play twice, and wished that I had been able to go more. It was fun watching my girls shine.
We had a few laughs about the "cheers" costume.

We're lucky to have a strong community theater program in our town. The girls really enjoy it.
