For New Year's Eve, we decided to do an international dinner. We talked about a number of options and agreed on Israel. When I was looking up food, I thought it would be fun to celebrate Rosh Hoshanah, the Jewish New Year - even though it's not on the same day. To get ready, the kids made Israeli flags, as well as New Year's decorations. For Rosh Hashanah, they eat apples and honey for a "sweet" new year. They also eat pomegranates and fish. So we ate apples and pomegranates, but we substituted shrimp for fish. The sites I read suggested doing apple-related crafts or activities. I had some apple shaped cut-outs, so Eli made up a treasure hunt to do after dinner. I had John pick up some post-Christmas treats for the prizes. We also made clock faces with frosting on little cookies, like on a Max and Ruby episode. (Some friends were going to come over, too, but couldn't because of illness.)
Here's to a wonderful new year!
