This looks like a typical family Thanksgiving for us, but you know from my posts in NY that this is the very sort of thing I missed most. And not just because I had to cook the big stuff myself, instead of just bringing a green bean casserole and some whipping cream. (But I do make a mean green bean casserole.)
This will sound a little silly, but one thing that makes me happy about a meal at my parents' home is that I get to use spoons, bowls, and other things that I used when I lived there. Being in Mom's kitchen just brings back a lot of good memories. (If only the kitchen still had that green carpet. How on earth did we keep that clean?)
I also have a lot of good memories of Thanksgiving at my Grandma and Grandpa Harris' house. That's usually where we went for Thanksgiving when I was young. Grandma and Aunt Sarah made a lot of pies, and Grandma made great stuffing. I wonder if I have that recipe? We always gathered around the table to talk and play Rook afterwards. We'd stop to see my Grandpa Hansen, as well.
