Lackawanna Coal Mine

This was one of our best outings. We went to the Lackawanna Coal Mine in Scranton with our friends, the Hansen/Weed family.

First, we watched a film that showed footage of the old miners and their work. The background music was all old-time mining songs. I enjoyed that. It also had footage of a horrible mining accident in the state.

After that, we went down into the mine. Our tour guide had been a miner for years, so it was interesting to ask him questions. There were just so many fascinating details. And sad details.

And with a huge piece of coal.
The rail car(?) that took us into the mine. It went backwards going down.
