I wanted to write a few quick things, but I've already forgotten most of them.
Tonight we went to Hungry Bear, a fun pizza place that has a lot of video games that the kids can look at and pretend to play. Their favorite is "Dance, Dance Revolution." There was a man there making fancy balloon animals and things. There were also some people in mascot-type bear costumes. Eli and Tori weren't scared of them, which bodes well for good photo-ops at DisneyWorld. In fact Tori went up and hugged the smaller one and kept waving shyly. When the bear approached Jonah, I didn't really expect much reaction one way or the other, he's so young. So the bear came up and patted him, and Jonah's whole body convulsed in a scared reaction. It happened so fast and was so funny, poor guy. Anyway, it was a really fun night. I don't know that I could have enjoyed myself more in a fancier setting.
On the way home, Eli told us that he knows how to speak Spanish. He paused for a minute and then said, "one." I wasn't sure if he was trying to remember how to say one in Spanish or if that was it. Apparently that was it. Later he called out that he knew "two Spanishes: one....two." If he learns any more Spanishes, we won't have to try to get him into that bilingual charter school. He has a good new friend in the ward named Christian. There are a number of cute boys his age in the ward. I hope they all stay here and grow up together. There are good kids Tori and Jonah's age too, but not as many.
I went with the kids to the elementary school to drop off a registration paper for Eli. He was scared to go in, but then seemed to enjoy looking around, so it was good - for him. It depressed the heck out of me. I can't really explain why. Just seeing kids in the hall jostling around - it seemed big and impersonal and scary. I don't know. But part of me is excited for him, too. I hope that side wins out, because I was so close to homeschooling him, I could taste it. (I acted upbeat at the school, of course.)
Jonah started clapping today. He gets a kick out of our reaction, and does it often. I tried to get it on tape, but no luck.
Well, the other stories are still escaping me, so I'll get to bed.
