BYU Football Fun

We thought it might be fun to take the kids to a BYU football game. We looked online and got tickets for the Homecoming game, which turned out to be a fabulous idea, I have to say. We got a room at a hotel right by the stadium, and we were all set.

The first night, we arrived in Provo and went to dinner at Tucanos. It is a Brazilian grill-style restaurant, where they come around periodically and offer you different grilled meats - and pineapple! They also have a really yummy salad and food bar.

The next morning, we headed over to the track where the kids ran in races. I was so proud of them! It was fun to run to different spots on the track and cheer for them.

Tori in her cool pink running shoes.
The end of Eli's race.

After the races, they served a free blue pancake breakfast:

We missed the Homecoming parade as we checked out of our hotel, so the next thing on the schedule was a trip to the BYU bookstore. We each picked out a T-shirt at the store to wear to the game. Here are the kids modelling theirs at the CougarEat.

After lunch, we went to the Bean Museum. In the animal presentation, both Maggie and Jonah got called up to help:

There is a thing called the Cougarwalk, where you can go line up and high-five the football team as they come to the stadium. The band came first, and there were news cameras. The students were lined up across from us. It was really exciting! We visited with a nice family visiting from out-of-state while we waited.

There was a tail-gating area across from the stadium where a bunch of businesses had tents and gave away free stuff. We came away with bags full of free BYU cups, pens, megaphones, etc. The highlight there was meeting Harvey Unga and getting his autograph.

And then the game! It couldn't have been more exciting. We were down two touchdowns, then came back and dominated until Tanner Mangum went out with an injury. It looked like we would lose after that, but then Tanner came back in and we won. Whew! The kids stomped and yelled with the best of them. They did the wave and the action for each first down. It really was fun.

Maggie took this shot.
The famous CougarTail. Which wasn't that yummy, I thought.
This will definitely be a tradition. I think Kimberly's family will come with us next year.
