Moab!

We went on a wonderful mini-trip to Moab in July. When I look at the pictures or think about it I keep wondering why it seems like it was one of our best trips ever. I think there were several factors:
1- Money has, of course, been very tight, but my parents gave us some money to help with this trip and kept encouraging us not to skimp on things. We didn't spend a lot, but it was like a little vacation from financial reality. We ate out twice, stayed at the Super 8, etc.
2- The week before, John had had a very promising job interview in Evanston, and we went to Moab for another interview that seemed like a really good bet, based on the letter they had sent. So I was filled with hope and ideas about the future, whichever spot we ended up in. We even looked at homes in both places.
3- I LOVED the scenery in Moab. That's now one of my favorite scenic spots. I kept waxing philosophical about the very different types of natural beauty the Savior has created that all have their own appeal.

In any case, it was a memorable trip. After we checked into the hotel, we went to do some hiking. The kids were whining a bit, so I was unsure how it would go. However, we picked some spots that were easy walks, and they really loved climbing around on the rocks. Their favorite spot was at the base of double arch. I was so proud of their daring rock climbing. The weather was absolutely perfect. It rained a bit when we first drove in and it was overcast the whole time. It was much cooler than we expected for Moab in July.
Here is John rescuing them from a slick spot:
We didn't hike up to Delicate Arch - just to a look-out point: The second day, after John's interview, we went to Dead Horse Point:
The kids' favorite thing about every trip, big or small, is the swimming pool. Here we are at the fancy Super 8 pool. So, we aren't going to live in Moab, but it's a great place to visit! (We're going to live in our van by a river. Just looking for a nice, scenic one. :)
